Workshop Session: Can you code a fair and unbiased algorithm?

SUMMARY

Join us for an interactive hands-on activity for people interested in tech, coding, and being ethical digital citizens. You'll learn about the importance of ethics and get hands on with Python code to design an algorithm. Can you be fair? Or will your decisions (accidentally) disadvantage some people?

We need to prepare the next generation of digital leaders to understand the dangers of biased algorithms and AI. To fight that inequality, they need to know how to spot them, and how to tackle them.

The interactive lesson explores how personal data is used to make decisions. You'll see how computer programmers can (often accidentally) implement their own bias into the algorithms, AI, and apps they create.

At this workshop we'll walk you through an activity. You'll get the chance to design your own algorithm, and then see it in action.

No technical knowledge is needed to take part. This will be a fun and insightful exploration of this important topic.
