  • The Great AI Runaround! with Burness Paull

    DAY 1 ONLY - DURING LUNCH, 12.15-12.55, STAGE D

The Great AI Runaround will be an interactive experience to challenge your views on some of the latest issues posed by AI – inspired by the 80s hit game show “Runaround”.

Attendees will be asked a series of thought (and emotionally!) provoking AI related questions by Burness Paull’s Callum Sinclair in his role as host. Each corner of the room will then be asked to defend or sell a different response to the provocations posed. Once you have been persuaded (or otherwise!) by our different teams, you’ll be asked to run around and head to the corner which best represents your views. Our host will then dig a little deeper and you’ll be given the chance to tell the room it how it is (or at least how you see it).

Our ethical, economic and technological dilemmas will seek to facilitate diverse discussions surrounding AI and challenge some of our AI preconceptions. The idea is to help people’s understanding of some of the key AI trends and an awareness of the questions being asked by law and technology experts in a fun and interactive way.”

  • Introduction to Children's Rights with The AI Team

DAY 1 ONLY - DURING AFTERNOON BREAK, 15.10-15.40, STAGE D

The Alan Turing Institute and Children’s Parliament in collaboration with Scottish AI Alliance, have been engaging primary school children (aged 9 – 11) across Scotland to explore their knowledge, understanding and current perceptions of AI.

In this half hour session run by Members of Children's Parliament (The AI Team) and The Alan Turing Institute, delegates will be introduced to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and how this relates to AI.

Through a fun and interactive activity we will discuss the children's human rights implications of the ways in which AI systems are designed, developed and deployed.

Attendees will be invited to reflect on their own fields to consider what changes could be made to support all children across Scotland to be happy, healthy and safe.

  • Wildfire Detection with Craft Prospect

BOTH DAYS - DEMO ZONE, LEVEL 3

Craft Prospect is a space engineering practice based in Glasgow. We create enabling technologies for nano-satellites and other space systems, including the utilisation of artificial intelligence. Advances in embedded systems and machine learning applications are enabling increased autonomy in Earth-orbiting small satellites. These advances allow the processing of data to be performed in space, at the very edge of acquisition.

Craft Prospect has worked with partners in industry and academia to demonstrate the benefits of on-board data processing for rapid wildfire alerts with location mapping to emergency services on the ground. We are excited to offer an interactive demonstration of our AI powered wildfire detection system through a realistic simulated orbit of the Earth, where participants can select parameters, watch as alerts are generated in real time and discuss the results together as a group.

  • Demos from Jisc

BOTH DAYS - DEMO ZONE, LEVEL 3

Jisc's National Centre for AI offers a curated selection of demonstrations showcasing the various applications of AI in different domains.
The Essay Generation demo illustrates how AI can be used to generate coherent essays from given prompts, saving time and effort for students and educators. (Requires institutional log-in)
The Face Emotion Detection demo showcases how computer vision technology can be used to automatically detect emotions on people's faces.
The Sentiment Analysis demo demonstrates how AI can analyse the sentiment of text data.
Explore AI contains these and 21 more AI demo’s available to explore. We are also bringing the soft skills platform Bodyswap’s to demonstrate a great application of AI & VR.
